However, they seem to be establishing themselves well and I now have room in a narrow border so they're off there in the autumn. The crop was okay considering the plant size. Watering is always a challenge, but being sited by the back door we emptied every pan of water used in the kitchen (veg steaming, egg boiling, etc) into the pot after the water had cooled down, which seemed to keep it nice and moist.suburban veg gardenerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08546041205509607893noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6288480452785054795.post-1126931964923877432014-07-14T11:03:21.481+01:002014-07-14T11:03:21.481+01:00I only had 3 fruiting canes this year as it was th...I only had 3 fruiting canes this year as it was the first fruiting year. I left the garden to it's own devices while I got on with college work; This year it's the other way round and I have a lot of college work backing up on me! (As well as a balcony full of seedlings.) I planted borage, tulips and other bee friendly plants under my fruit trees this year so that the bees would be in the right vicinity - what a shame to have no fruit on your lovely cordons. Btw, I have won one of the pairs of Chelsea tickets so will be at the show next Saturday! Will DM you on Twitter as it would be lovely to meet up! I've already purchased Karmazyn seeds for next year after seeing them on a number of blogs. I shall have to save some of the crimson seeds as well to aim for that mix. My hazel poles have now been installed in their pots and I've taken delivery of some hazel pea sticks from the same source to support my asparagus pea plants, which are not as tall as I would like them to be at the moment.
